Friscocross #2 was my first great result in the SM Open. It was a nice, cool day at the Frisco Nordic Center where the race was held. The course was extremely difficult. It had a climb on a bike path that just killed, especially since we did 10 laps in 60 minutes. Then the course went downhill throught the woodchips and cut down trees and was just so fast.
I had a pretty bad start, it was in the last row. But I was able to move up throught the field of around 40 guys into the first corner at the top of the hill, sitting in around 12th. I continued to move up and at the start of the 3rd lap I had caught all but two of the riders ahead of me, Jake Wells and Matt Pacocha on Hudz-Vista Auto. I tried an attack around the small group I had caught and went into the red and only put like 2 seconds on them. But I was able to keep my gap on all but one of them after relentless battles with other riders throughout the race. I ended up coming in about 5 seconds ahead of Jon Tarkington who had been moving up throughout the race. I came in 5th place and I was very happy with my result. I also won the Category 2 race. I had a super strong race and I actually didn’t crash once which I think is also great. And I had fun which matters the most.
